What are Negative Ions

Molecules or atoms that have gained or lost an electrical charge, are called "ions". In nature, molecules can be broken apart by sunlight, moving air, or water. This is especially prevalent at the beach or in a forest. Running water, waterfalls or evaporating water produce negative ions. Urban areas have lower concentrations of negative ions than rural areas. The euphoria we experience in certain places can be caused by the abundance of negative ions. This can have a positive effect that elevates the mood. Both Tourmaline and Germanium naturally emit negative ions.

Two German scientists discovered the atmosphere carried electrically charged particles in 1899. Faraday, the famed scientist, coined the term, "air ions". "Ion" is derived from the Greek language, and means "go" or "wander about".

In offices and homes, the ion change of the air is low. Charging the error can have a positive effect.

On the other hand, positive ions can often produce a depleted state. There are a few places in the world where atmospheric winds can carry a large density of positive ions. This can sometimes create irritability and other health challenges in the population.

Negative Ion Technology

The Biomat emits negative ions two ways. A layer inside the Biomat is called "Toca Catch Power". This layer is a special ionized fabric. Using powdered tourmaline, chrome, and 20 other minerals infused in the fabric, a natural ionization is created. In addition, the Biomat creates negative ions electrically.

This layer produces 1500 ions per cubic centimeter. This is combined with the ions produced electronically through additional layers in the Biomat, which output 300 ions per cubic centimeter. The total combined ion output is now 1800 ions per cubic centimeter. The previous model produced only 300 ions per cubic centimeter, using only the electronic production of ionization.

To put this in perspective, ion bracelets, typically worn on the wrist, are now on the market. The makers of these bracelets claim numerous health and sports-performance benefits. The higher quality bracelets produce about 1,500 ions per cubic centimeter. The Biomat 7000mx would be like a giant, high-powered ion bracelet. A smaller amount of negative ions are generated electrically. The Biomat has a thermostat and monitors the temperature at multiple locations in the mat.
